The Nearest Neighbor Attack – Gaining Wi-Fi Access at Any Distance

In this new AMA video, I talk with Brett Walkenhorst, CTO at Bastille, who also holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Wireless Communications at the Georgia Institute of Technology. We discuss a Russian APT Nearest Neighbor Attack that Volexity recently discovered.

Volexity states that, “The Nearest Neighbor Attack effectively amounts to a close access operation, but the risk of being physically identified or detained has been removed. This attack has all the benefits of being in close physical proximity to the target, while allowing the operator to be thousands of miles away.”

Brett and I discuss this attack in detail, outline why it can be so effective, and cover mitigation mechanisms.
